Resource Recovery Program

Businesses generate a crippling amount of waste everyday and currently, there is no full service all inclusive recycling program in place to help manage this problem. This presents an incredible opportunity to design and implement a comprehensive model program that will employ cradle to cradle concepts turning business waste into green commodities, transform professional attitudes and practice, and effect a significant reduction in the carbon footprint generated by our local commerce. Not only will this successfully translate into immediate savings for each business, in the long run, the entire community, both public and private, present and future generations, will benefit from this essential step towards sustainable living in a world of finite resources.

To meet this community need, Tech Go Green is pioneering the development of a full service recycling program catered specifically to the business sector. The idea is to provide a comprehensive, well-organized, convenient collection and drop off service that will supply suitable collection bins for all recyclables, including plastic, metals, glass, paper, cardboard, printer cartridges, batteries, e-waste, hazardous waste, even organic waste, and administer a weekly pickup schedule tailored to individual business needs in the South Bay community. The Resource Recovery Team, consisting of a Tech Go Green Program Coordinator and a crew of student volunteers, will perform a waste audit of each facility to figure volume and specificity, help reduce waste through a review of purchasing policy and simple sustainability tips for the office, administer collection and drop off of all recyclables to their respective facilities, and maximize our planet's resources by partnering with manufacturers who utilize recyclables in their products.

We are currently in the research and development phase of this project with a pilot program scheduled to launch in 2010. Updates on our progress will be posted to this page. We welcome any input from the community and are actively seeking partnerships with interested parties. Please direct all comments and inquiries to Stacey Hoshimiya.
