Today, August 5, 2009, is a day that will go down in the history of Tech Go Green. For all non-profit organizations, there is a plain and simple paper that the IRS will send you when they determine you are indeed a tax-exempt organization; known as the 501c3 determination letter. This letter allows you to pursue grants from foundations and allow for donors to enjoy tax-deductable benefits.

The process is like a college application, but much more time consuming and takes roughly 6 months and $750 to get. In our case, it took about 11 months. After 2 additional months of follow-up letters and calls with the IRS representative, a small unassuming envelope arrived in our mailbox. Our 501c3 determination letter had arrived!
Since incorporating Tech Go Green in March of 2008, we have grown as an organization tremendously. On a side note, if you ever come across “how to start” books by NOLO, trust me, they work. Now that we are an official 501c3 non-profit organization, a lot of doors have been opened. But at the same time, the increased opportunities also mean more challenges. So good luck Tech Go Green!
Thank you to our dedicated board of directors and founders who brought our vision into reality. Thanks to all our supporters and especially our 5 amazing interns who were extremely helpful. The passion and talent from everyone involved have been influential in our growth and many of our new directions reflect just that.
