Interested in a Green Career?
Nov 06, 2009

On Monday, October 26, 2009, Tech Go Green held its first workshop on Green Careers at El Camino College in Torrance, CA. The workshop was intended to inform and educate college students and career changers about the various industries of green careers in existence, and to explore the paths that could be taken to obtain them.

Ivan Kan, the founder of Tech Go Green, opened the floor with an introduction about himself and the history of TGG. The introduction was then followed by the main speaker, Kalisa Falzone, who led the remainder of the workshop.  Kalisa gave an inspiring story about how she came to be a staff at TGG and how it is possible for anybody to adopt the principles of environmentalism no matter which industries they belong to. The presentation was very thorough, and covered the various topics:

  • Introduction to Green Careers and the current news and statistics
  • Exploration of the various industries of green careers including specific occupational profiles (industries such as: Business, Technology, Legislative, Academia)
  • Ways to gain experience (Internships, Volunteer work, Free classes)
  • Information on the LEED AP
  • Information about networking events

Thanks to the contribution of the Tech Go Green staff and others who did excellent job advertising, the event was filled with attendees from multiple backgrounds. Many of the attendees participated in the Q&A or stayed after to talk to the TGG staff, showing interest of getting involved. If one word could be used to describe this experimental event, it would be “Success.” It may be the first event, but will definitely not be the last.

Special thanks to John Weitzel and El Camino College for hosting the event. For more information about Tech Go Green and to get involved, go to www.techgogreen.org.
